SL10B’s Cake Stage.
Some people have told me there’s a strong resemblance between Mistletoe and Laura. I don’t really see it. For one thing, Mistletoe’s an elf and I’m not.

Honey, if I won a million linden dollars, I would cash the fuck out tomorrow.
I do this one all the time, especially since I have multiple avatars who build. I’ll buy a sculpt or mesh build set for one av, thinking I left it in the other av, only to find I had it in this av all along. What can I say, my inventory is a mess… and that’s when it will load.
Other than, say, prostitution, breaking and entering, and drug use? Not a thing. Well ok there was the time I shot a kid av. But that was ALL, I swear.
Ah. If you’d asked me this three or four years ago, I’d have the answer ready. But times change, people change, and I’m happy to say I’m content to not want to date any avatar. Maybe a cop-out answer, but an honest one.
Well mine, of course! Seriously, though, don’t ask me to single out one from my closest friends. I love them all and SL wouldn’t be the same without them.
I was saving this story for that someday that I appear on Lauren’s show (when or why? Psshh don’t bother with details) but here goes. Pull up a chair for this.
Way back in the iron age of about 2008 or 9, when I was just starting to be curious about sex in SL, I went and got myself a designer vaginer. And it was top of the line, state of the (then) art, too. So I take it home and decide (much like IRL) to test out the goods before going and sharing them with a partner.

Now. My house at that time was over my shop, in a just-barely-mature-rated medieval village. I’m in my house and I start riding the five finger train to Pleasureville with this new thing and apparently I’m MUCH better at this than at real life because I’m getting a whole play-by-play of how much I’m enjoying myself: lots, evidently.

What I don’t know, is that this is all happening in Local chat. I naively think that only I can see this.

So, well, on I go petting the kitty, like ya do, when my welcome mat downstairs alerts me to the fact that two customers have entered my shop. One’s an old friend, the other a brand new to SL friend of hers. Well and good, I’m thinking, I’ll just wrap up here–

And that’s when, you’ll pardon my choice of words, my new top of the line state of the art girl bits let the whole neighborhood know that congratulations, my valiant efforts have paid off, and I’m getting off like a– oh hell, like a thing what gets off. You write the jokes, hockey puck. And THAT was when my friend decided to chime in and ask me if I just happened to be jilling off upstairs.

So what do I do? I RP it.

“NO! *gasp* Why would you say that? *gasp*”

Rock it like ya meant to do it. Yeah. Next question?
What would she say? She’d say “I can’t believe you told that fucking story again!”

So, um, hi.

Hard knowing what to write after the last thing but I figure I’ll at least try.

It’s getting on that time of the year where my interest in Second Life is flagging. It seems to happen every summer, really. In June there’s a little surge of enthusiasm with the SLB, and then in July I’m off the face of the grid until somewhere around September. It’s not necessarily my depression, in fact I think it’s more likely just the natural cycle of RL activity that gets my attention in the summer. For example, I’m planning our annual RL vacation for July, in which we go on our medieval reenactment event local to the area. Because I’m the head of the Household, I end up doing a lot of the logistical and culinary planning. Not to mention dressing myself and my husband for the occasion.

Another thing that’s got a lot of my attention, I’m pleased to say, is writing. I’ve been pretty inspired lately and I’m trying to get and keep myself on some kind of schedule for writing. And it really feels good to create. Part of me says “I hope it doesn’t suck…” but the other part of me reminds that first part to not worry about it sucking. There’s stuff out there that sucks and still does well. The difference between their crap and my crap is that theirs is done, so shut up and get to work.

There are some developments with himself’s RL work that we’re watching closely. I’m not at a place where I’m at liberty to share more about that because ~~he’s a secret agent and he would have to kill me~~ I MEAN it’s changing too rapidly and is too uncertain for me to share yet.

So I guess what I’m saying is, please don’t be worried if you hear less from me this time of year. Really, I promise, I’m all right. But just in case you are worried, PJ has my cell phone number and anything she has to say is what you should believe. Unless and until you hear The Word from her, I’m safe and content and doing all right.

The ice cracks

Sometimes ice goes away ever so gradually, melting to water a few slow drops at a time. Other times it shatters, hard, sudden, with a shiver and a crack.

Depression’s like that too. And today the ice snapped and popped. I was thinking about my husband and my cat, and about how much they mean to me, and about how much it would hurt to lose them, and suddenly I felt this overwhelming bittersweet feeling of what himself calls “mysterious sad beauty” so profound that it made my heart physically ache. I cried, a little (I was at work so I reined it in), spontaneously; and I felt like I was alive and that it felt so beautiful to love someone enough to think about how much their loss would pain me.

That’s when I realized I’m not depressed right now. That for now, I’m free.

My visit to the World Goth Fair

Lately I’ve been resolving to explore more, to get out of the skybox and go out and do fun things more (and plan events LESS). So when the message popped up on my screen to visit the World Goth Fair, and mentioned that the proceeds benefit the Sophie Lancaster Foundation, I said, what the hell!

I didn’t have a whole lot of money to spend there, which is a pity because if Ls were no object I’d have brought a LOT more home than I did. But I got this freebie dress from Evie’s Closet, and this makeup (with 100% of the proceeds going to charity) from Adore & Abhor. The parasol is my own, made last year as one of our SL9B freebies; and the boots (which you can’t see) I already had are from Lassitude & Ennui (but they’re available there at the fair too). I’ve always preferred the vintage-style, flowy type of goth for myself over the more modern leather & latex style, so I think I came away with some nice treasures.

There are all kinds of styles at the World Goth Fair, and you’re benefiting a really great cause when you go. So… get thee hence.

Bouying Up Slowly

I’m currently in the “anxiety and irritability” portion of our program, but make no mistake, I’m on my way upward if slowly. Depression just really fucking sucks all around but at least I can see a way out of it, if long and slow.

I’ve been showing this to everybody. If you haven’t read it yet, it’s like that. Yes. She nails it to the fucking wall.

Let’s see, let’s see, what news. The festival is over. Anytime I ever feel like spearheading a nine day event again, in particular when my availability is limited, do us all a favor and check me in. I’m officially certifiable for going forward with that and expecting different results.

That’s not to say it wasn’t without its moments of enjoyment. There were even some moments of outright fun (like blowing the grounds up…). And, none of it could have gone over without the help of my friends who were also my staff. And, to the performers and merchants who made it more than just a really pretty vacant lot.

But you see, a depressive crash hit me right square in the middle of it all. And with it came the “what the hell is the point?” described in the link above (seriously, GO READ IT). And so it means even more than it ordinarily would that those whom I could count on, stepped up and held things together while I tried holding me together. With the crash came the bitter disappointment of such low turnout, and by the time the second weekend rolled around, well, you had one elf ready to just throw in the towel and stay in bed. Which I pretty much did, on Saturday.

I can’t really state just how much of myself I end up pouring into things like this, so it’s hard not to take it personally when it falls miles short of expectation. So to everyone who said, “Mistletoe, this was a great event,” you made me cry. Which is a good thing because you got to my partially-frozen (due to the depression) heart and really made a difference. THAT, is the payoff I get for doing stuff like this.

Lionheart Festival Plans Roaring Along

The post-Fantasy Faire shindig I’m planning, the Festival of King Richard, is roaring right along (see what I did there?). I’m getting more and more merchants (good ones at that!) and have almost filled my booths. I still have a couple Priority booths left and the rest are the regular ones.

Merchants will set up on May 3rd, and the gates open on May 4th. The festival runs through May 12th. Then clean-up day is on the 13th. And did I mention the quality of merchants? We’ve got everything from eyes to clothing to jewelry to flowers to landscaping to animations and furniture. Many of them will have games like gatchas. We’ve got a food court. We’ve got jousting lined up. Fireworks, storytellers, and a singer too.

If people don’t show up I’ll be pissed.

Tonight I should focus on goods for my own merchant booths, one for Manic Elf and one for Clover’s Kitchen. Clover has been working on some new mesh medieval food to debut. For the Manic Elf booth I got some of the sweetest tip jars you’ll ever see. You’ll want them if you have a medieval village of your own.

So… I should stop yakking. I’ll get something to eat and then it’s back to work for me.
