I didn’t have a whole lot of money to spend there, which is a pity because if Ls were no object I’d have brought a LOT more home than I did. But I got this freebie dress from Evie’s Closet, and this makeup (with 100% of the proceeds going to charity) from Adore & Abhor. The parasol is my own, made last year as one of our SL9B freebies; and the boots (which you can’t see) I already had are from Lassitude & Ennui (but they’re available there at the fair too). I’ve always preferred the vintage-style, flowy type of goth for myself over the more modern leather & latex style, so I think I came away with some nice treasures.

There are all kinds of styles at the World Goth Fair, and you’re benefiting a really great cause when you go. So… get thee hence.

I’ve been showing this to everybody. If you haven’t read it yet, it’s like that. Yes. She nails it to the fucking wall.

Let’s see, let’s see, what news. The festival is over. Anytime I ever feel like spearheading a nine day event again, in particular when my availability is limited, do us all a favor and check me in. I’m officially certifiable for going forward with that and expecting different results.

That’s not to say it wasn’t without its moments of enjoyment. There were even some moments of outright fun (like blowing the grounds up…). And, none of it could have gone over without the help of my friends who were also my staff. And, to the performers and merchants who made it more than just a really pretty vacant lot.

But you see, a depressive crash hit me right square in the middle of it all. And with it came the “what the hell is the point?” described in the link above (seriously, GO READ IT). And so it means even more than it ordinarily would that those whom I could count on, stepped up and held things together while I tried holding me together. With the crash came the bitter disappointment of such low turnout, and by the time the second weekend rolled around, well, you had one elf ready to just throw in the towel and stay in bed. Which I pretty much did, on Saturday.

I can’t really state just how much of myself I end up pouring into things like this, so it’s hard not to take it personally when it falls miles short of expectation. So to everyone who said, “Mistletoe, this was a great event,” you made me cry. Which is a good thing because you got to my partially-frozen (due to the depression) heart and really made a difference. THAT, is the payoff I get for doing stuff like this.

I’ll try again tomorrow.

Merchants will set up on May 3rd, and the gates open on May 4th. The festival runs through May 12th. Then clean-up day is on the 13th. And did I mention the quality of merchants? We’ve got everything from eyes to clothing to jewelry to flowers to landscaping to animations and furniture. Many of them will have games like gatchas. We’ve got a food court. We’ve got jousting lined up. Fireworks, storytellers, and a singer too.

If people don’t show up I’ll be pissed.

Tonight I should focus on goods for my own merchant booths, one for Manic Elf and one for Clover’s Kitchen. Clover has been working on some new mesh medieval food to debut. For the Manic Elf booth I got some of the sweetest tip jars you’ll ever see. You’ll want them if you have a medieval village of your own.

So… I should stop yakking. I’ll get something to eat and then it’s back to work for me.

My Eleanor of Aquitaine costume. For the upcoming Festival of King Richard, coming to Lionheart (where else?) in May.

I love “Archimides” so very much. My RL husband and life’s partner, he is often the voice of reason when I start to getting overwhelmed. Well, planning this festival in May was starting to overwhelm me and I was in full-on panic mode yesterday.

“So here’s what you do,” he said to me last night as we were retiring, “Get a handful of your very closest friends, the people you trust the most, and form a kind of committee. People you know will be there to handle things when you can’t be.”

And so that’s what I did/am doing. These closest people in my inner circle, combined with the Lionheart staff who will take care of such important things as security and audio streams, are going to join up with me and help me make this festival successful, exciting, and fun.

Well, so, I thought it would be fun to let said people pick which part they get to play in the festival. And since it’s my festival, I get first pick. So, here I am in my Eleanor of Aquitaine costume. Eleanor was the mother of King Richard and his brother Prince John, and at the time of our story, is in her more twilight years, as the sons are grown and old enough to marry. In fact, Eleanor has found who she feels will be the perfect bride for her son Richard and the main “plot” of our festival will center around the marriage and coronation of the new Queen Berengaria.

Symmetry, my right-hand man and “drop dead deputy” for this undertaking, has chosen the role of Dame Julian of Norwich, a seer, anchoress, and (aptly) advisor.

I think that Krystal and PJ, also in my inner circle, have chosen Robin and Marian as their roles, and really I just can’t wait to see them in tights. Heh.

Since most of the staffers are men, they will probably get some of the choicest roles. Alvi, Dirk, and Rene will likely have to decide amongst themselves who gets to be Richard, John, the Sheriff, and others.

Wonder if Tel will be Blondel… hm…

1. Did I mention notecards? No but really though.
2. People who expect you to RP with them when you’re not in their RP area. I’m shopping, I’m visiting a friend at his store, and in comes someone using “this one” instead of “me”. Or I’m in my home estate and someone asks me to “just drive over” to their place rather than giving you a LM the way Jesus intended.
3. Ickles. These are child-shaped avatars who have no idea of how actual children act, speak, or interact. I don’t want to have to translate your 800 “w”s and the words “mes” and “bes” to try and figure out what the hell you just said. It may be an extension of #2 and I do realize that when you have a kid av, you’re always “on”. But turn it down about a thousand points. I get you’re presenting yourself as a kid, really. Just talk like a child, not like an idiot.
4. Being called “baby”, “sweetheart”, “hun”, or– dear Rod– “dear thing” (yes this really happened) by people I don’t know. Especially when my name is literally right over my fucking head. You’ve got no fucking excuse. At least in SL I don’t have idiots telling me to smile.
5. Wholly unrealistic body proportions for humanoid avatars. I don’t mean being exceptionally slender or voluptuous; I mean so ridiculously so that if you were a real human with that body a swift breeze would break your arms off. I especially can’t stand legs that are double the length of arms, and those horrible meshtits. People already have unhealthy ideas and ideals of body shape, this sort of thing just makes it worse.
