The more days I have like today, the more I like Second Life.
Honey, I’m so glad you’re home. I can’t tell you how hard this week has been on me, without you here–oh, now don’t blame yourself. I know you wizards like to say you can predict the future but you yourself has said it’s all just an educated guess. You had no way of knowing. And besides, you’d planned to go to this conference for months.
Please, sit. I’ve got so much to tell you about.
Well as you heard, there was an earthquake some hundred miles north of the island and as a result this huge wave slammed into the north coast. Demolished everything for some 30 or more meters in. Brace yourself, babe…
The brothel is gone.
Oh all right all right I’ll get serious. I’d rather not, you know. You know me, if I put a smiley face on it, it might be easier to deal with. But it is gone. It’s all gone. Like the sea reached out a hand and just swiped everything it could grab. Trees, bridges…all of it.
And, um, yes. Someone was hurt. Quite a few someones.
Wow this is hard to say. Um…you remember Kat, right? And her sister Storry? Well they haven’t been found. No trace of them. There are others, too, but we’ve just not been able to account for them all.
So the party we’re going to is that kind of a party. The kind they’d have enjoyed if they were here.
———————————
It’s too bad His Lordship couldn’t have made it today. Then again maybe it’s just as well that he’s on the mainland for the weekend. I think he’s appealing to His Majesty for some disaster relief funding, but I don’t know–nobody ever tells me anything. Maybe it’s better that the populace not see how he’s taking it. Not that I know how he’s taking it. But I know how badly enough I’m taking it and I don’t own this land, I don’t lead the people on it.
Was a good party, though. Excellent music, and good company. That Raven lad is pretty adorable too, I must say! I hope he and his friends will visit the island again soon.
Thank you for saying goodbye to the guests, after the dedication of the stone in the graveyard. I’d just had too much of it all by then. You know. You saw it in my face. So thank you. You’re the best. And I’m so glad you’re home.
I can’t believe this is real. I can’t believe any of this has really happened. Well I mean, I can believe it. I just don’t want to.
To have a dream that felt like reality, and wake into a reality that all seems like a bad dream…I was going to come down and tell you my incredible news, because you’re always the one I told about the dreams and everything. You were always the one who didn’t judge me. You were…
I can’t get used to saying “you were.”
Of all the days I had to go to the mainland to shop. Not that I expected I could have done anything about it. What the hell can one do when the forces of nature let loose with a tidal wave for fuck’s sake?
We spent all last night searching for you, you know. For some trace that gave us an idea whether we should hope or whether we should grieve. Even Nearon was with us. I think he was mostly interested in salvage but at least he was there. It was me and Andi and Badd and Andi’s husband John…I didn’t want to give up. I didn’t want to go home.
You wouldn’t recognize the place now. It’s all underwater. Some sloop drifted out to us in its wake. I don’t know why I expected you’d be on it, that you’d be up the mast and in the riggings like nothing ever happened.
When the daylight finally showed on the water it was finally starting to dawn on me: you really are gone.
I can’t believe it.
I guess I imagined people like you to be immortal, you know? Not the kind to be taken in an instant. Part of me keeps hoping you’ll be just around the bend, staggering about in the tavern and singing at the top of your lungs.
Andi and John had to take me home. I didn’t want to give up–ugh, like I need any more salt water on me now. I’m sorry.
I guess if you were to choose how to go it would have been this way, by the will of the sea. I can try and take some comfort in that.
I just…I just can’t believe it.
I would have seduced you
You probably hadn’t the faintest clue
Which would have made it all the sweeter
When I sprung the trap I’d have set for you
And let me say it would have been grand!
I’d have led you away to a secret place
Taken your sleeve by my little white hand
And no one could tell or else risk disgrace
What would I have whispered,
What words would I have spoken?
Ah, but it would have been fun
No promises made, no promises broken–
Just you and just me in the restricted section
Behind a door behind a shelf
Had I not known now what I’d not known then
I’d have stolen you off, just once, for myself
And we’d meet in the street the next day
We’d avoid each other eyes
Lest some blush, some twinkling, give away
The previous night’s muffled sighs
And oh! the night it would have been!
The secret surprise I’d had in store
Because I would have seduced you
Had the truth but waited
one day more.

I am certainly no authority on the art and science of cyber-sex. More experienced sorts would laugh at my track record, let alone my level of “game”. But, I like to think of myself as a quick study. I might not have done a whole lot, but I’ve learned from what I have done.
I’ve especially learned some of what not to do.

We’ll be live today at Nancy Blake’s Pub in West of Ireland at 11AM and play for 1 hour. Come enjoy acoustic Irish traditional tunes, drinking songs, ballads, maybe even *gasp* a modern song or two!
Today’s show benefits Project Children, which takes kids in Northern Ireland and sends them to the US for a summer to help teach them about peace and tolerance while they’re young. West of Ireland is a modern-day Irish sim; any clothing is fine as long as it’s clothing! While you’re there, enjoy surfing at the nearby beach, strolling along the boardwalk, or shopping at the numerous businesses along the quay.
Catch Cat Agus Cu this afternoon at McCrady’s Tavern at Cooper River for an hour of live acoustic music. We’ll play some traditional Irish and Scottish tunes, a drinking song or two, and even *gasp* some modern songs!
Cooper River is a post-Civil War/Victorian era sim set in South Carolina. Victorian/Steampunk clothing is encouraged, but not required.
We’ll be playing at our hometown pub tonight, the Green Dragon Inn, from 6:30-7 PM SLT (which is also Pacific time). If you can’t make it inworld, we can also be heard on our stream.

This morning I was up with the sun to see if I could catch anything worth keeping.
